Botulinum toxin is injected into the muscle under your skin, it works by blocking the signals between nerves and muscles, effectively paralysing them. This has the effect of relaxing and smoothing out the kind of wrinkles caused by repeated muscle contraction – so the treatment is especially effective on frown and laughter lines.

Complications are extremely rare – but as with any medication, it can have side effects.
