Botulinum toxin is injected into the muscle under your skin, it works by blocking the signals between nerves and muscles, effectively paralysing them. This has the effect of relaxing and smoothing out the kind of wrinkles caused by repeated muscle contraction – so the treatment is especially effective on frown and laughter lines.
Generally, between three and six months. Repeated treatment not only softens existing lines and wrinkles, but has the added effect of preventing future ones from forming.
Complications are extremely rare – but as with any medication, it can have side effects. These include flu-like symptoms in the 24 hours after treatment, bruising at the treatment site, and temporary weakness or drooping of other facial features if the toxin has moved into areas not intended for treatment. Treatment around the eyes has been known to cause blurred vision, and treatment of the neck has caused breathing problems – but these are extremely rare occurrences. And because the effects of Botulinum toxin are temporary, any side effects are too.
Dermal fillers are used for facial aesthetic treatments and are injected into the skin. They are designed to effectively reduce the appearance of unwanted wrinkles which are too stubborn to be treated with Botulinum Toxin.
It is also used to contour and volumise facial features.
Dermal fillers are based on Hyaluronic acid which is a substance that naturally exists in your body.
The following are areas that can be treated: Cheeks, Nasolabial Folds, Marionette Lines and Lips.
As mentioned above, Dermal filler can be used to augment as well as 'fill' lines.
Dermal filler placed in the lips are usually to treat asymmetries or to enlarge the natural lips. Whereas dermal filler placed into a Nasolabial fold is to fill a line to create a more smooth appearance.
